For the Japanese eShop, that is. Sorry, North America and Europe.

According to the official websites for Sega of Japan and Nintendo of Japan, the original classic action hit Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニックザヘッジホッグ) is coming to the 3DS eShop on May 15th for 600円 — approximately equal to $6 US Dollars — as a fully remastered 3D Classics title.

3D Classics Sonic the Hedgehog will make use of the stereoscopic functionality that the 3DS offers and will allow players to relive Sonic's original adventure in 3D. The ability to create instant restore points in the game is an added incentive for those who enjoyed the game, but found it a bit on the difficult side. Full button customization is also an added option for the game.

Sonic the Hedgehog was originally released in Japan, North America, and Europe in 1991 for the Sega Mega Drive. In 2008 it was ported as a Wii Virtual Console Sega Master System title.

Will North America or Europe see classic Sonic in the near future?

すげーーー if I had a 3-DS it would be awesome since I am a huge fan of the Hedgehog series.
Let's hope this makes it's way to North America. Finally some Genesis titles making their way to the eShop. Now if SEGA would only release Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for Virtual Console.
