Meet Sylveon, Eevee's Newest Evolution

By Kevin on Feb 14 2013 12:42 PM
Meet Sylveon, — also known as Nymphali, Feelinara, or ニンフィア (Ninfia) — Eevee's newest evolution Pokémon for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

Earlier this week, we reported that Ninfia was the Japanese name given to Eevee's newest discovered evolution Pokémon. Today, information has surfaced that reveals its name in Spanish, Italian, French and German. Sylveon's type and gender is still unknown, however. The official Pokémon website is currently teasing us about its type saying, "What type is Sylveon? You'll have to wait to find out!" We should find out soon enough!

That name sounds nice. It flows off the tongue just like the other Eevee-lutions. Of course, now we play the waiting game until its type and evolution method are revealed.
I think it wil be an posion type.
The word sylvan, besides meaning, "Consisting of or associated with woods; wooded," can also mean, "Pleasantly rural or pastoral: 'vistas of sylvan charm'," which seems to connote a NORMAL-type in my mind as we already have Leafeon who is forest-y enough.

Sylvan has connotations to mythology and is often associated with elves and faery-folk. It can also be spelled Silvan, very close to silver. Does this mean FLYING- and/or STEEL-type is a safe bet?

I could see a NORMAL-type to compete with newer more powerful Pokémon. Perhaps the pink color means it will learn healing moves, commonly associated with NORMAL-types. I think that's what I'm settling on.

[Edit: I also want to say that it's such a girly design perhaps this is a female-only species and they'll show us a male-only one as well? I know gender stereotypes don't often play a role in Pokémon, but Eevee has yet to explore Pokémon gender in its evolutions.]

It could be that they wanted to end the Eevee evolutions with a NORMAL-type. The wait is killing me.

You think they'll end the Eevee evolutions without doing one for every type? I do want to see an official STEEL-type, a FIGHTING-type, a FLYING-type, and a POISON-type. A DRAGON-type could be interesting too! BUG-, ROCK-, GHOST-, and GROUND-types... They do seem to appear alongside new methods of evolving Pokémon. I have a suspicion that Pokémon X/Y will have a lot of surprises in store for us, things that can't be spoiled because they'll be actual DLC and not "unlockable DLC."

It's an exciting time in the world of Pokémon for sure.

maybe that or they are both normal and on only evolve differently due to gender.
Now that i think of it, i think that this one may be normal type.. It really looks like a normal type.. like a skitty and a minccino did the dbz fusion dance lol
Cute name for a cute pokemon. :)
Hm hard to tell what type it looks like.
I've added a video in the original post that shows off some of the moves Sylveon is capable of using.

I say it's a Flying-type!
I am so stupidly excited for these games, lol. It's going to be hard for me to pick who I want in my team out of all the new pokemon they've come up with, especially since only a small handful have been revealed thus far. This wait is nearly insufferable! :o
I just read this thing on Tumblr. It's looking more and more like a FLYING-type, folks. :^/

51.8 lbs. of flight. By Pokémon standards that's not nearly strange enough.

Like I've been saying the entire time, it's FLYING-type! We'll see though, I guess.
Anyone still willing to argue against Sylveon being a Flying-type? I'm 99% sure of it. In this new trailer for ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens, Sylveon makes an appearance at the end. Watch closely starting at 1:20 and tell me what you think.

There doesn't seem to be anymore of a hint towards Ninfia's type, honestly. At least, I don't see anything of the kind. That said, I'm excited for the next movie and I'm kinda hoping that Mewtwo will be the same Mewtwo that Ash has met twice before.

I hope it's the same Mewtwo as well. It would be nice to link movies again (besides the original and mewtwo strikes back). Also the pikachu movie will include this new evolution!
Indeed, but not the actual movie. Rather, in the pre-movie special, titled Pikachu and the Eevee Friends. Looks like it'll be just as adorable as the previous special, Meloetta's Sparking Recital.

Yeah that is what I meant. Even though it is separate from the movie itself, they are played in conjunction with one another. The Meloetta special episode was cute. I can't wait more info to be revealed about Sylveon. I know it will be in my Pokemon party as soon as it becomes available.

Maybe it's just me over-analyzing the part where Pansage, Axew, Pikachu and Oshawott are all looking up in the sky moments before Sylveon appears with its ribbons waving through the air, like it just landed.
