Our 3DS Image Share For Animal Crossing: New Leaf

If you've been in tune with recent Animal Crossing: New Leaf news, there's no doubt that you've read about Nintendo's 3DS Photo Share service. In fact, if you've already purchased Animal Crossing: New Leaf, chances are you've shared some of your in-game images with social networking sites Twitter and Tumblr. That's pretty much how the 3DS Photo Share service is designed to function. It allows you to quickly and easily post in-game images (taken by your 3DS camera) to be viewed by a worldwide audience. There are a few drawbacks, however.

First of all, Twitter and Tumblr are two of the most popular social networking sites. Because of their simplistic functionality, some features will never become available. And rightly so. Both Twitter and Tumblr, for example, don't make use of "categories" for posted messages. Instead, members make use of hashtags — words or phrases prefixed with the # symbol that create filtering — when composing messages. Hashtags work similar to categories, but those messages often become swallowed by the never-ending barrage of more...messages. And sometimes because of the massive flow of new messages, many different hashtags are used, which make it more difficult to drill down to a specific subject. There's likely not a more efficient way to group messages due to the popularity of these two social networking sites.

For these reasons, I've created a similar user experience that fans are sure to enjoy: the Nintendo Nerds Animal Crossing: New Leaf Photo Share feature. It's quite easy to start sharing your most memorable Animal Crossing moments with your fellow community members, as well as fans around the world.

Five simple steps to upload your ACNL photo:
  • Take a screenshot while playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf by pressing the L and R buttons at the same time.
  • Press the HOME Menu button and open up the Internet browser.
  • Bookmark this link: http://www.nintendon...eaf-photo-share * You can also click the "Upload your #ACNL Photos" button on our home page.
  • Tap the "Upload Photo" button located on the right side of the page mentioned above.
  • Select a category, browse for your image on the 3DS SD card, provide a catchy title, and give a good description about your photo.
That's it! Once you have uploaded your photo, it will appear on the screen. After that, you can go back to the main listing or click on other photos to rate them or even leave a comment. You can also subscribe (via email or private message) to each photo's comment section.

You'll quickly see that once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take long at all to share your photos. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm more than willing to hear them. This feature can only get better with time.

I think this is really cool. I have used it once so far but I will be using it more often. Thank you for this.
Just posted my first one yesterday :)
So...is there a limit to how many photos we can post? I'm taking photos like crazy! Any cute or poignant thing I see I'm like, "L...aaaand...R! Got it!" Instant memories.

Though in actuality I'm trying to get my character to blink during a picture or for things to be "just right" so I'm taking screenshots over and over of the same thing. XD This is probably why I'm taking so long to actually accomplish anything in-game!

This is going to be really great. I look forward to seeing everyone's photos and experiencing and learning together.

Nice~ I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Dr. Evil! I haven't thought of him in AGES!

I'm such a turd because I hadn't even really given any consideration as to whether there was a limit or not!  But now I feel better knowing that I can post all one billion of my photos without aggravating anyone ~*~
(Though I'm sure after my first few hundred thousand people will start rolling their eyes...)
Hey, everyone!

I'm very happy to see that everyone is enjoying this new feature. It's with great pleasure that I'm able to give our members the flexibility and the freedom to freely contribute to the site on their own. Sadly, I feel like more and more places on the Internet are moving away from that type of interaction with members.

I wanted to announce a few things; nothing major at this time, but worth mentioning.

First and foremost, our images are monitored. I don't incorporate automatic filters or anything like that, but I do check the images often. For example, I just deleted an image from a member who decided that a title of "No" and a description of "Nope" would be sufficient. Heck, it wasn't even in the correct category for that matter. I disliked deleting the member's contributed photo. It was of this huge, nasty & gnarly tarantula. And, I hate spiders. He's lucky he didn't get bit. Ouch! That's not why I deleted it, though. So, please, have some consideration when contributing to our new feature. I don't feel like I'm asking too much, especially since I've added more responsibility to my plate. I guess my eyes are, indeed, larger than my stomach.

For those who actually appreciate the feature and use it as intended, I appreciate it very much! Rock on!

Secondly, I'll be making some adjustments to the way the pages look when viewing the actual photos. It's not anything for anyone to worry about, and won't require you to do any additional work, but I felt like I needed to at least announce that.

Finally, I would suggest that everyone clear their browser cache (pronounced /kaSH/) from time to time so you're seeing the latest changes on the pages.

If you aren't sure how to clear your cache, please see this post.

P.S. I'd like to congratulate Elyse for being the first member to construct her Dream Mansion. That's just...wonderful. In a few days, when all the dust settles down (and I pluck all my weeds), I'd like to have a meet-up with a few of you. Would anyone be interested in something like that?
I've made some changes to the way the images are displayed when viewing them individually. You should be able to see the changes with a simple page re-load.

Here's an example, but they look like this for every image. I added share buttons at the bottom (Twitter, Facebook, and Google+) and at the top, I added the member's name under the image title.

Small update: I've added an upload option to the right side of the page (see this example). It's likely that you'll need to perform a simple page reload if it looks weird.

I am going to buy a cheap 3DS.
Not sure how I missed this article first time around, but this is really neat. I'm gonna post my pictures there from now on.
In preparation for the 10,000+ images that are imminent between now and the remainder of the year, I have revised the categories. I'm in the process of moving some of the images to their respective new categories (if needed), but there should be no question when it comes to choosing a relevant category when posting an image.

On another note, it'd really be great if more of you could share images. You don't have to, obviously, but it'd be appreciated. Don't just do it though because you feel obligated. I don't want that at all. I want you to have fun sharing your ACNL experiences and know that you're contributing to something big and important. Also, you're not restricted to posting from your 3DS (because the 3DS browser sucks). You can remove your SD card from your system, plug it into your computer and share images that way as well.

For those who have already contributed, and continue to do so, I appreciate it. Keep up the great work!

Here are the revised categories:
  • Characters
  • Clothing
  • Fish
  • Flowers
  • Fossils
  • Fruit
  • Furniture
  • Gyroids
  • Houses
  • Insects
  • Miscellaneous
  • Paintings
  • Public Works
  • QR Codes
  • Trees & Shrubs
  • Tropical Island
