Pokédex 3D Discussion

View your Pokémon in a whole new dimension!

This is a really neat application (completely free I might add) that is available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS via the Nintendo eShop. The Pokédex 3D application was developed by Creatures, Inc. and released on June 6th, 2011. The application, in its simplest form, is a 5th Generation Pokédex. Upon becoming available, I immediately downloaded it but didn't really pay too much attention to it. Now it's actually become quite exciting, not to mention a routine daily event for me. Every time I open my 3DS, I receive a new SpotPass notification to receive a new Pokémon. I currently have 58 Pokémon so I'm hoping that I'll complete the Pokédex this year. Here are some of the features, along with the official trailer video.
  • Collect data on over 150 Pokémonâ„¢ from the Pokémon Black and Pokémon White Version games!
  • See each Pokémon in 3D with animated motion and sound.
  • Rotate the Pokémon image 360 degrees to zoom in and out, and view it from any angle.
  • Search, sort, and filter all of the data you receive in a multitude of ways!
  • Complete your Pokédex by receiving Pokémon data from friends, using the SpotPassâ„¢ feature, or by scanning special Augmented Reality (AR) Markers.
  • Once you have collected data for a Pokémon, the AR Viewer allows you to view that Pokémon image in a real-world setting in real time, and create photos to share with friends!

You can complete your Pokedex in as little as 50 days (31 days in your case), if you leave your 3DS in sleep mode 24-hours a day.
I always keep it in sleep mode. I'm still not understanding how I can complete my dex in 31 days though. From what I understand, only one Pokemon is given per day. There are over 150 Pokemon in the Unova dex.
You can get up to 3 per day.

The heck? I wonder what I'm not doing correctly then.

How many hours a day have you been leaving your 3DS in sleep mode? I left mines in sleep mode for about 14 hours a day before and scored 2 new Pokemon.
To my understanding, sleep mode can be activated a few different ways.
  • Press the power button once, without holding it down.
  • Close the 3DS.
I never completely power off my 3DS. i always close it.
After you get a new pokemon. Hit home and then back to the Pokedex  and another Pokemon should appear.

I've recently discovered that. I forget how but I did end up doing that somehow. It's kind of misleading when you only get one SpotPass notification for the application icon, isn't it? How are we supposed to figure something like that out? Did it say to do that on their website or something, or within the application description in the eShop? It just seems weird that one would have to accidentally discover something like that.
I heard someone talk about it on a website when it came out. I got all mine  a while ago. I hope they release a few more.
Not to spoil my surprise, but I'm dying to know one thing. Are Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect included? If they're not, I'll bet money on it that they'll eventually be included.

None of those Pokemon are included in the app.

I'm actually happy to hear that. It builds more suspense and mystery for them.

By the way, does anyone think that the Pokédex 3D application will be used at all in conjunction with any of the upcoming main series Pokemon titles for the 3DS? I have a feeling that it will somehow, or another, be tied together. Maybe, maybe not, but I think it would be great if it did somehow.

Nintendo would be stupid to release a Pokemon app on the 3DS that only supports a DS title.

I guess I should have clarified a bit more. I'm betting that many of the people who have already downloaded the app haven't even thought of the fact that it could possibly interact with a game. Until recently, I just thought about that possibility.
with the app, if you get one pokemon, you can just close the lid of the device and open it again and a button will appear saying that a new pokemon has been received. Press this and it will save your next pokemon. This will still only give you 3 pokemon but no need to exit the app!

That's a great tip, Dreigo92. I just did that and it worked! That's definitely much easier than exiting/ re-entering the app.

Also, what's the point of the stickers? I scanned one online via an AR Marker and it added the Pokemon to my sticker collection, but it doesn't seem to do much of anything else. I mean, you can't even zoom in on the sticker or anything. I guess I just don't see the point...unless I'm missing something. o.O

This is the exact same thing I did to complete mine.
Well this is just odd...

I haven't been able to receive any new Pokémon for the past two days. Right now, I'm stuck at 99.

Is anyone else experiencing any issues?
I checked my Pokedex and got three new pokes, so it must be an issue on your end.
That's interesting. My SpotPass setting is set to "Yes" for downloading software. Also, I'm able to do everything, as usual; online play, access/ download titles from the eShop, etc.
u can also press the home button but not exit the app just select resume and a new poke will pop up.. the stickers unlock new abilities like u can pause the pokemon in mid-move and take a pic or u can have more pokemon out at once when taking a picture like 5 or something.. u can look up the ar markers online to unlock stickers u dont even have to take pics i found out lol i have em all except the summer forms for deerling and sawsbuck :3

Excellent information, Skitty843! I just collected my Pokemon by using the Home menu technique as you pointed out and I like that a whole lot better. Now, i don't have to open and close my systems so much. Thanks!
Teehee no problem! Glad I could be of some help!

Oh yeah I took advantage of this immediately after downloading the app the first time. You can use that for Swap Note too. Not sure why you need to do this at all but it is a lot simpler than totally exiting the app. :pikachu:
Yea my friend (who will be joining us in a few days once he gets back from poland) taught me that trick since he had the 3ds way before i decided to get one.. :daisy:
