Pokémon Direct Reveals Pokémon 3DS Titles Pokémon X and Pokémon Y

By Kevin on Jan 08 2013 06:06 AM

It was never about bananas!
On December 30th, 2012, the final concluding seconds of a Japanese television commercial (TVCM) for Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 revealed that major Pokémon news would surface on January 8th, 2013. At first, many believed that the news was solely related to Japan. Not too long after, the major news became a pedestal for worldwide gossip. Everyone, I mean everyone, was Tweeting about the coming day.

We soon realized that this was big; much bigger than any of us expected. Today, ten days later, we're happy to report that all the speculation and nerve-wracking anticipation has finally breached the surface and is a reality. As we anxiously awaited the 10-minute Pokémon Direct presentation, we would all soon be shocked at what was finally revealed.

At exactly 8:08PM JST (Japan Standard Time), Global President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, officially revealed two new 3DS Pokémon titles; Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

These two brand-new, main-series titles will be released at some point in October 2013 for North America, Europe and Japan. Revealed in a presentation trailer were the three Starter Pokémon; Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie.

Pokémon trainers will be able to develop a strong bond with their Pokémon by battling. Features specific to the Nintendo 3DS will be incorporated into the game. A new generation (Generation VI) of Pokémon will be available, as well as familiar Pokémon from previous generations.

I must say I'm totally stoked. Not because of the fact that I'm a fan of the Pokemon series but because its a 3DS exclusive release.
That trailer had me all sorts of giddy, so Nintendo has, once again, lived up to its name.
Wait is this a main series or a spin off?

Nevermind I see the new starters.
Main series, for sure. This is the next generation in Pokemon, with a new region and all-new Pokemon.
Here are the starters for those of you who can't watch the video yet.

From those options, I'd probably pick Fennekin, but I'd need to see the evolutions before I make a decision.
After being so disappointed with Pokémon Black/White 2, I won't lie, very excited about Pokémon X/Y. I'll give them credit, this was actually huge news. I know lots of people were worried that it was going to be some kind of fluff BS, but that's why I had a "wait and see" mentality. I won't lie, I'll probably stick with a water starter first, that's what I always do.
Not a big fan of pokemon, due to its grindy nature.
But have to admit, I'm tempted LOL
Especially cos of Fennekin :)

So cute!

I also think its an achievement that it will simultaneous world wide release.
I am so happy with this reveal. When I saw the Nintendo Direct using my mobile phone I was brushing my teeth and I shrieked! Toothpaste flew everywhere! Haha.

I personally think Nintendo has stepped up their game lately. Black2 and White2 were amazing and worthy of the first true sequels. Now we have a true 3DS  main series title AND most important of all, a global release. This is history in the making folks and makes me feel honored that I have been a Pokemon fan from the beginning.
Same month, at least. I don't see a "same day" worldwide release coming. Nintendo's first party titles are never that lucky. Maybe a few days/weeks between Japan/America/Europe/Australia. But that's a lot better than the usual three month delay.

I agree with you typically when it comes to this issue, but I feel like Nintendo has a LOT planned for this game to the point where they want to make it a worldwide event. I feel like it's going to have the same release date everywhere.

... I would wait in line at Midnight for this. In the freezing cold. In the rain. This is how excited I am over this.

/Most likely going to pick that water starter though.
//Ever since I played Blue when I was 7 (I AM OLD AGH) I have always picked the water starter my first go-around.
I whipped up a facebook cover haha excuse my bad photoshop skills ;)

Nah, I like it, it's pretty good!!

I was discussing this with some people in a LiveStream: I think the Japanese logos look so much cooler and better.

What were you disappointed with?  Just wondering.

Just a bunch of little things. I liked a good chunk of it (the idea of making a sequel to the same generation is one I wish they would've done eons ago, plus Bel/Bianca is even more adorable than she was in the first game) but there were random other things that I thought were a little off-putting (IE. when I was told that it was possible to catch wild Dragonites and Tyranitars, I mean come on. That defeats the whole purpose of the hard work you have to put in to get either of those two in the first place), and when enough little things add up... but this isn't the topic for such a discussion.

I understand what you mean but then Nintendo would not have made as much of a stink about a global release. This will make history as the first Pokemon game released everywhere on the same day. Now of course given time zone differences, Japan will come first but I doubt anyone will worry about a matter of hours.
Australia could be first :P

Technically, Eastern Australia (where I live) would come first, given a difference of one or two hours, depending on Daylight Savings. But then you have to account for areas of the world that are even further ahead in time than my area of Australia. Looking at the timezone selector on the NN settngs page, there aren't many areas to mention, besides Fiji and New Zealand, being an extra two hours ahead by default. Again, a bit too technical and I'd honestly be surprised if that happened.

:) Yeah I knew that specifics would come up eventually. I was not specific in my post and was mostly comparing Japan to United States in terms of time. I get you though. I guess only time will tell how Nintendo handles this.

It's funny you mentioned that. I caught a Dratini in Pokemon Black two levels shy of evolving into Dragonite. Two rare candies later I had a Dragonite.
