Pokémon X, Pokémon Y: Official Region Name Is Kalos

By Kevin on May 14 2013 08:02 AM
Japan calls it Karros, everyone else calls it Kalos.

The Pokémon Company have just revealed the official English name of the region where Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will take place. According to the official Pokémon website, Kalos is "home to beautiful skies and forests! The Kalos Region is full of interesting places to visit and explore!"

The website also mentions that Lumiose City — a thriving metropolis filled with customers checking out its variety of shops — is located in the center of the Kalos Region. Lumiose City can easily be recognized by its massive tower, which is located in the center of the city. From where the tower stands, several different routes branch out and can be explored very easily. It sort of acts like a centralized hub for Lumiose City, as well as the Kalos Region.

Looks great! Cant wait
The region looks like the shape of a star to me. I like how Nintendo has been taking inspiration from different "real" places. Castelia City was based off of New York and now Lumiose City is based off of France. Good stuff.
There's a place over in the left that kinda looks like Stonehenge to me and it looks like it has a cemetery in front of it. Interesting!
I wish they'd use satellite imagery. The artistic rendition makes it hard to tell what's what.

What a challenge it must be to create a new region with diverse habitats for all Pokémon almost every time. I will say that this region looks the most natural, in a sense, with rivers meandering everywhere and that giant purple thing looming over a bunch of blue-roofed buildings on the right. Very natural.
