Hey Nikki you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind. Hey, Nikki!

Swapnote — the fun, free, and now feature-full message exchange application for the Nintendo 3DS — has received a new and exciting update. Would you like to use more than one color on each page while drafting a note to your digital pen pal? No problem. Want to attach photos and audio recordings while composing a note? Not a problem. Oh, you can also delete more than one note at a time. I know Nikki has been receiving a lot of requests for that feature. There are quite a few other features that will get your ink flowing, too!

The new update can be downloaded from the North American Nintendo 3DS eShop at no charge. Navigate to the "Applications" menu within the eShop and scroll to the right to find the Swapnote application link. You can also just perform a simple search for Swapnote using the eShop search feature. The block size required for this update is 81 blocks. Currently, the new Swapnote update is not available for the European or Japanese regions.

I would love to know how many people had time to play around with these new features? I did for about 10 minutes this morning. I am already very satisfied with the update. The addition of multiple message deletion is one of the most highly requested features ever.

Also, I already started using the voice recording feature on both outgoing messages and replies. Now it is super simple to do.
I played around with it for 5 or 6 minutes. I like the changes.
Ooh...I want to try the new features.

You're not the only ones.
I Do aswell
There's still one thing I haven't been able to figure out yet: the different colors for composing notes. I'm still stuck on black for some reason. Has anyone else been able to use multiple colors?

I don't even know how to change colors. How do I change colors? I just figured out how to changed stationary.

I figured it out and have updated the article! Wow, shows you what a Swapnote noob I am!

"to switch between colors, use the L and R buttons on the D-pad while composing your notes."

Most ridiculous pun for the week. Wait for it...

"Color me stupid!"
Not for Australia and Europe :(

I'd think they would've done worldwide update...

Makes no sense
I'm not a fan of the cursor highlighting the pen's position as it writes the notes, but! Swapnote has been greatly improved and I hope it's not long before our Nintendo of Europe friends get this update as well.

Also, when I see a friend using Swapnote on my Friend Code Friend List, I see the number of special stationery they've collected! Andy has 52! XD

In the bubble on the friend card, under the Currently Playing: [icon] Swapnote it reads, "Bonus stationery collected: 52," with the number on a new line.

Thanks for the info! I have updated the article!

That's a pretty neat feature. Now, someone hurry up and use Swapnote so we can see how many stationery each other has!
Here are some tips if you didn't know:
- going L or R on circle pad speeds up the writing process
- Press L or R shoulder buttons to jump left and right to next new note (or favourite)

forgot to add: grumble grumble waiting for Nintendo to get its act together

I wasn't aware of the first one you mentioned. Is that a new feature, or was it already available in the previous version?
and oh my! what is this paralysis of intellect that I didn't have you in my 3DS friend list Kevin! (have added you)

I hate Swapnote! But...I'm starting to like it more.
Aww don't hate on Swapnote :(
Granted deleting notes is very annoying and tedious at least it seems with this new update should be much easier to do

I haven't deleted a single note yet. The time it takes to download notes always seems to discourage me from going back to check for new ones. I don't really hate it, it's just annoying sometimes.

Ah I see :)
I usually just open it up and leave it and do something else while its doing its thing
I love the new update, but still don't know how the bonus stationey works.

I don't care for the new cursor that highlights the pen's position either. It looks better the old way I think. But the rest seems nice, though.

I can't believe all regions didn't receive the update!

So basically, Nintendo sends out lots of bonus stationery as promotional material. You can get a bonus stationery officially from Nintendo or you can get it if a friend sends that stationery to you. This is great if you just got a 3DS and missed a cool stationery or you want an international Japanese stationery promoting a television show or something. Often the Japanese ones are for games that aren't yet localized. (Though I think some stationery has been restricted in the sense that it doesn't download sometimes. Like, there are 2 Luigi's Mansion ones with the 2 different logos, but the European one isn't downloading for me for some reason).

Anyway!

If you have Friend Code Friends from exchanging Friend Codes and they're on their 3DS system at the same time you're on yours, you can see their status Message and what game they're playing by going to the little orange happy face on the main 3DS screen. If they're playing Swapnote, you'll see that they are. The new Swapnote update now also allows you to see how many of these promotional stationery versions they've collected.

I hope this helps.

Nintendo "region locks" the special stationery, in a sense. If you have a US 3DS and have the EU Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon stationery, the US stationery will actually overwrite the EU stationery, provided it's the same one, as they sometimes make new ones for different regions. So yea, you won't be able to save the EU piece as you already have the US one. If Nintendo of America/Europe releases an Animal Crossing: New Leaf stationery that looks exactly the same as the JP one, it'll overwrite that one, too.
Luigi's Mansion stationery is the first one I've seen do that.
There's also the Art Academy 3DS and Fallblox/Crashmo stationery. I think it's only been those three so far.
You can see a list of stationery here http://nintendo.wiki...m/wiki/Swapnote
