I was surprised with how many updates the 3DS gets, it's really cool to know that bugs, anti-piracy measures, and improvements are being made to something I bought over a year ago. It's even cooler to know that Nintendo will continue to improve my 3DS in the future, at no cost to me! It's awesome.

Even some of the games and apps are doing updates and bug fixes. The Mario Kart 7 patch that fixed a bug cheaters were exploiting to skip most of one racecourse, for example. Also, I Colors! 3D is going to have a huge upgrade that will improve the sharing aspects of the app.

Unlike a phone or an mp3 player, a handheld gaming device needs to grow and change over time, responding to the needs of the company and the players and I think Nintendo does that well.

But also just...having played Nintendo handhelds over the course of my life, the 3DS is really incredible with how internet-connected it is. So it's still amazing to me that updates can happen at all. XD
Im loving the updates! I heard that they are planning on making a miiverse for the 3ds.. if that is true I will be very happy and very at awe.. im looking forward to these changes though!
I am just confused why it is an emergency maintenance session. To me that sounds negative. As in there is a potential hacker or something. Gosh I hope not. I do not want to repeat a similar incident to the Playstation Network fiasco.

I would like to think positive and hope that this maintenance is what is needed to bring some exciting things like miiverse to 3DS etc.
