Nintendo Network On The Horizon

By Kevin on Apr 06 2012 06:36 PM
Last January, during an investor's conference, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata spoke of a new online service; Nintendo Network. The purpose of this new online service is to provide a better, overall online experience to consumers in a variety of new ways. Most importantly, the Nintendo Network will allow us to have one centralized account (profile), much like Microsoft and Sony have for their consoles. This single account will work with various Nintendo platforms, allowing us to download full games, patches, updates and Downloadable Content, or DLC. Ultimately, the Nintendo Network will replace the existing, inefficient Wi-Fi Connection network.

The Nintendo Network is already being utilized in Japan for special events. In fact, they've been happily snapping 3D photos for their 3D photo contests for quite some time now. It's hard to say when the Nintendo Network will go into full bloom, but I'm fairly confident that we'll start to see it take shape very soon; most likely this fall.

Here's a list of confirmed titles that will utilize the Nintendo Network.
  • Bokujou Monogatari Hajimari no Daichi (Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin)

  • Fire Emblem: Kakusei (Awakening)

  • Kid Icarus: Uprising

  • Mario Tennis Open

  • Tekken 3D: Prime Edition (Official in Japan only)

  • Theatrhythm Final Fantasy

  • Tobidasu Print Club Kiradeco Revolution
Supposedly, the next 3DS firmware update will introduce us to the Nintendo Network.

I'm looking forward to it. Are you?

I'm looking forward to it, I just have high expectations at this point. As you said Sony and Microsoft have this for their networks, and they have been doing this for a few years now. Nintendo doesn't have to re-invent the wheel at this point, they just need to make sure it rolls like the rest.
I'm pretty excited to see how it will work. Hopefully it won't bomb.
Im also excited and hope it works smoothly and isnt disappointing
Well isn't the first true Nintendo Network 3DS title really Theatrhythm Final Fantasy? At least that is the first I have seen the new logo on the NA cover art. It comes out next month and I am picking it up on release date. Kid Icarus: Uprising may use this but it isnt branded as such on the cover. I am just eager to know more about what this consist of.

Did your copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising come inside a box? The logo Nintendo Network logo should be branded on the box the game game in. Not the game case, but the box. If not, then the NN logos were added to the box shortly after the initial release.
You are totally correct Kevin. I retract my last comment as I really didn't even notice the Nintendo Networks small logo on the upper right. Oh gee wizards I feel sheepish! Thank you for the correction!
You would think they'd slap the logos on the game boxes as well. Maybe that makes too much sense though.
