The Pokémon Company Hypes Up Worldwide January 8th Announcement

By Kevin on Jan 04 2013 02:04 PM

Wake me in 4 days!
The wait is absolutely painful, folks! About 8 hours ago, we received news that Pokémon Japan made an official announcement on their website. The announcement was a simple reminder, in the form of a basic web page, telling all Pokémon fans that big news was to come on Tuesday, January 8th, and to "not miss it!"

That simple web page also said, "Come and bookmark it, check this page do not forget!" It wasn't anything new per se, as we covered the news on December 30th, but this was the beginning of something that what would become a viral broadcast moments later. Not even six hours later, Pokémon North America jumped on board and broadcast a message, sending the same hint.

Theirs however, was in the form of a cool animated image that was most-prominent on the right side of their home page. It said, "Pokémon Fans! Check back in 4 DAYS for major news!" Heck, the official Pokémon websites for Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and even South Africa even slapped the animated announcement on their websites.

Fans, this isn't a new iPhone or Android application. It's not an eShop application, either. This is something big; much bigger than that. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 and cancel any pending appointments you have!

Bookmark the pages below or come back and visit us in approximately four days as we share the news with you, first-hand! What kind of announcement would everyone like to see?

It's the end of the world again!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!
It's gotta be about the future of Pokémon, right? I think they're going to say that the new life the franchise will have on the 3DS and Wii U will be like nothing we've seen before. I've sort of assumed they'll be putting the old art-style of the games away and will move towards 3D-models like in the Pokédex 3DS app(s). I kind of want them to say that we'll be using our Mii avatars and that all the old the "gimmicks" of the past games will make a return. I'm a dreamer.

Maybe it's more than news and it's going to be a world-wide contest to inspire the next generation of Pokémon?

I know a lot of fans want an MMORPG-style Pokémon game, but I've always been doubtful that Nintendo would move in that direction. It seems almost predictable and that's not their style. But then, the Pokémon games have been very formulaic.

Whatever it is, I'm sure this is the beginning of a long and drawn-out news cycle that we'll be hearing about through E3 and beyond. In other words, it's not going to be a release date of any sort.
i hope its ruby saphire remakes, fingers crossed.
A remake of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald is nowhere near the level of hype Nintendo's making over this. Game Freak have already said that the franchise will be evolving this year, so at the very least, it'll be an all-new game that they expect will blow everyone's socks off.

But I think I'll side with Pasta on this. All this hype doesn't seem worth a single game of any kind. It's got to be something much bigger.

I think I might know where you're going on this. I could be wrong, but maybe you're thinking that some type of Wii U/ 3DS title is in the works...meaning a title that will work with both the Wii U and 3DS?

That's probably what I'd be hoping for most, beyond a Wii U MMO (which I really want to see someday), but since this announcement is coming from Game Freak itself, a company which has never developed for the home consoles (as far as I'm aware), a cross-platform title seems a tad unlikely.

I'm personally betting on a new main series game for the 3DS, the next generation beyond Black/White, but I can't recall if even Black/White recieved this kind of hype prior to its announcement.

Those are my thoughts on this. I simply feel it's too early for Wii U development. A main-series title for the 3DS is a must before we see any Wii U development.
No i think they are doing the remakes of ruby and saphire on the 3ds.which is why it may be such. I dont think they would do all this hype for a spin off.

I would really like to see Pokemon Trading Card Game like in my article. That would work perfectly with what you said about being on both Wii U and 3DS. :)
Im assuming its gonna have to do with the new 3d models... that the pixels and squishy characters will be put away and a new more beautiful sleek pokemon adventure will be layed down in front of us to explore and drool all over!
