Can't Purchase Wii U GamePad Until 2013

We know that the Wii U will support up to two GamePad devices simultaneously. If you watched the North American Wii U Preview yesterday, you may have been asking yourself "how much are the Wii U GamePads going to cost?" Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime recently gave IGN an explanation as to why the Wii U GamePads will not be available for purchase until 2013.

"We have deliberately not announced the availability of the GamePad as a separate, standalone accessory here in the United States. The reason for that is simple - there are no games in the launch window that take advantage of a second GamePad. And [because of that], I want all of that hardware production to be focused on driving sales at retail. What I mean by that is that Wii U is a console and a GamePad together. If I were to take additional GamePads and make them available as an accessory, then I would have less Wii U console hardware to sell into retail. You know, probably one of your questions is whether I'm going to meet demand. The only way we're going to achieve that here in the Americas is to not have that GamePad accessory, so I can maximize my overall volume."

Just for comparison purposes, I would like to point something out here. During yesterday's Japanese Nintendo Direct Wii U Launch Presentation, Global Nintendo President Satoru Iwata showed us the cost for the Wii U GamePad accessory. Granted, the figure is in Japanese Yen, so the amount (based on the current very strong Yen rate) is significantly high but at least we saw a figure; 13,440 Japanese Yen for each Wii U GamePad accessory.

Based on the current conversion rates, 13,440 Japanese Yen is approximately equal to $172.84 US Dollars. I'd like to mention that this USD figure should, in no way, be used as an accurate price point for the North American retail value. We can however, use that USD equivalent as a nice landmark figure.

If I were to guess, based in the current Yen rate, we'll see the Wii U GamePad accessory go for a retail value of somewhere in the neighborhood of $125 - $150 US Dollars.

Well I am not too concerned about using a second Gamepad. I do not see the point basically. With the Wii U Pro Controller being an option, I would not want Wii U Gamepad. I hope that games in the future do not force you to own two Gamepads.
I'm scared to see the price of an additonal game pad. I see the Pro Controllers showing up at $49.99, so the gamepad has to be more then that. Like you said, $125 -$150 sounds right, but is it worth it? From my understanding adding an additonal gamepad cuts the frames per second from 60 to 30.
