My local Gamestop has the Wii U displayed. I am still a little annoyed that only Rayman is a demo. Give us Mario or Nintendo Land!

There aren't any other participating retailers nearby?

I did not check to be honest. I was at my local Gamestop yesterday so I saw this displayed.

So much for using the Wii U kiosk locater from the article. :P
Nintendo Australia's also partaking in public Wii U demo locations, though it's only one location in each state/territory's capital. I've got 'till Friday to check it out again before returning to the torment of waiting three weeks for the official launch.

EDIT: Added a more detailed link.

I just looked and to my surprise my two local gamestops are the only closest retail stores in my area that have the Wii U. Every other place is really far. This is crazy. I would have assumed that Best Buy would have it as well.
I have demo units in every direction of me.
