Nintendo Responds To Overpriced LEGO City Undercover

It's hard to believe that LEGO City Undercover has already been available for two days now. Seemingly weeks ago, fans were trying to figure out why the digital Wii U eShop version had a $59.99 virtual price tag attached to it at launch. The physical retail copy of LEGO City Undercover — according to Nintendo and various other retailers — has a suggested retail price of $49.99. Perhaps the added cost of $10 for the digital download version was just Nintendo's greedy way of saying, "Stop complaining. As a consumer, it's more convenient for you to go digital."

Was Nintendo sneaking in a marketing experiment to measure how many consumers would purchase the digital version regardless of the $10 markup?

The truth is this: it was human error on Nintendo of America's part. And, it's nice to see that Nintendo have made swift contact with consumers who ever-so-impatiently refreshed the Wii U eShop page until LEGO City Undercover became available for download. Below is an email that was sent from the Nintendo Consumer Service department to one of our community members. If anyone else purchased the eShop version of LEGO City Undercover for $59.99, your email could vary slightly from this one. But, you're getting compensated for the difference!

Hello,

Thank you for your recent purchase and download of LEGO® City Undercover for Wii U from the Nintendo eShop. Due to a data-entry error, the price of this game was initially set at $59.99. We intended to set the price at $49.99 and have made the correction in the Nintendo eShop. We are taking steps to quickly refund you the difference. You will receive a $12 refund applied either to your credit card or to your account in the Nintendo eShop, depending on your form of payment. This amount covers the difference in price as well as any applicable taxes. We apologize for this inconvenience.

This refund will be processed in the next 24 hours. If you paid from a balance in your Nintendo eShop account, your credit will appear within 24 hours. If your payment method was credit card, it may take up to two billing cycles to appear on your statement. We thank you for your patience. Enjoy your game!

Thank you,
Nintendo of America Inc.

Glad to see they are trying to resolve the mistake.
Mistakes happen. It is how they are dealt with that matters. This is good.
