Rayman Legends Dev Team Announces Online Challenge Mode Demo

By Kevin on Feb 19 2013 11:14 PM
Ubisoft Montpellier have released a video expressing their sincerest apologies regarding the September delay of Rayman Legends. In it, Senior Game Manager Michael Micholic and Creative Director Michel Ancel announce that a Wii U-exclusive demo will become available in the eShop in early April.

Instead of just a secondary demo, Wii U fans will have the chance to play the full version of the Rayman Legends Online Challenge Mode at no cost. Wii U fans will be the first to sample the online play with this enhanced demo. Online challenges are generated daily and weekly and each have their own leader board. Challenge stages include Land of the Livid Dead, The Inferno Tower, The Dojo and the Dungeon. Challenges can be played alone, or with up to five players simultaneously. A history system keeps track of all personal performances and earned trophies.

According to Micholic, the Online Challenge Mode demo will be "playable for countless hours." What are your thoughts on this? Is Ubisoft completely missing the point, or are they compensating the Wii U fans appropriately?

If you look at the video posted on their facebook page, at around the 1:20 mark you can a see a button prompt appear on screen. Is that an RT button I see?
What's so surprising about an onscreen prompt for the back right shouder button?
I think they are missing the point. The bottom line is this game should be released as a temporary Wii U exclusive. By this I of course mean release the game on its original date for Wii U and then release the game on other consoles in September. This new demo is nice but it will not make the fans happy. It is a demo after all.

Lol. I saw a funny video in regards to the discovery of that RT button and I laughed. "Exclusive" is really a word I don't believe in anymore when it comes to games.
I would say for me personally this is fine.  The reason I say this, is because I wasn't planning on getting this game anyways.  Maybe releasing this extra demo will change my opinion of the game.  Who knows?

RT is the labeled button on an xbox controller, not the GamePad. If its for the GamePad it would either be R or ZR

From my understanding it is not a demo but the online challenge mode extracted from the game and being released with updated challenges coming out every week or so.

Well, the game is also coming to the Xbox 360, so that's still not surprising. They may have just recorded the wrong game footage by accident. But I wouldn't put it past Ubisoft HQ to mess things up and make the challenge mode demo universal, too.
What about Microsoft? Apparently, they have a policy that prohibits software from being released on non-Microsoft platforms prior to it being released on theirs. I can't seem to find the policy anywhere but that doesn't seem to be so far-fetched. If true, wouldn't this mean that Ubisoft broke their promise to Wii U fans by signing such a contract?
