A new Wii U system update (version 3.0.1) is available. But what does it do?

According to the support section of Nintendo's website, the version 3.0.1 update provides "further improvements to overall system stability and software compatibility." This is the first Wii U system update that feature that adds software compatibility. If any significant details for this update are discovered, we will promptly report them.

Each of the three major regions has received the update under the following version titles:
  • North America - Version 3.0.1 U
  • Europe - Version 3.0.1 E
  • Japan - Version 3.0.1 J

It seems they have sped things up even more. Going back to the Wii U menu from an app or game is even faster.  When exiting Miiverse and eShop, you are back on Wii U menu immediately, no delay.

I haven't compared the speeds between this update and the previous one, but I notice no difference.
At least we know nintendo is hard at work!
I will make sure to download and install this when I get home. If Nintendo did not mention this update on a Nintendo Direct I am going to assume this is a minor update. I do not expect to see any difference in performance.

I noticed that when exiting Miiverse, Nintendo TVii or eShop, I no longer have a slight delay before the Wii U Menu appears. It exit's whatever app your in and then boom, right to WIi U Menu. Before, I had a slight delay, 2 seconds tops, along with the Please Wait box. That is gone for me.
