Wii U Virtual Console Trial Campaign Schedule Reminder

Don't forget about Balloon Fight!
On January 23rd during a Wii U-focused Nintendo Direct presentation, the Wii U Virtual Console service was unveiled. Iwata-san made it very clear that the "service" wouldn't become available until after a Wii U system update this coming Spring. This wasn't entirely true though.

Balloon Fight — a classic action-platformer originally released for the NES in 1985 — was announced as the very first Wii U Virtual Console title. It immediately became available once the presentation concluded, as part of a special campaign: Wii U Virtual Console Trial Campaign. In a nutshell, seven classic Nintendo titles are being offered: each for 30 days at .30 cents apiece.

Below, we'd like to provide our fans and readership a friendly reminder about the necessary info needed in order to take full advantage of what's being offered. As you already know, the Balloon Fight offer is ending in a few short weeks. Don't forget to download it for .30 cents.

Here are the other six titles that are looming on the horizon.

  • May 15th - June 13th, 2013 - Super Metroid (SNES)
  • June 12th - July 11th, 2013 - Yoshi (NES)

Once the end date for each campaign title has passed, their price will return to normal cost.

Hmm I was thinking about getting balloon fight but I have it on my 3DS and I know I will never use it so even for 30 cents I am not interested. The first one of these I'll consider is punch out.

Yea, I think I'll be getting punch out as well.  I'll Probably also get Metroid and Donkey Kong.
If these Virtual Console games for the Wii U don't eventually receive an update to "fix" their currently upscaled resolution, I'll be thinking twice before purchasing future content. For now, the .30 cent offers are a great way to experience classic titles on the Wii U GamePad, but Nintendo really need to consider maintaining native resolution. That might seem like something petty, but those who grew up in the 8-bit era can appreciate that.

Why is it that Nintendo always seem to be completing puzzles with ONE LITTLE TINY PIECE missing? No one is perfect, I understand that. For something like not maintaining a native resolution for Virtual Console games is a prime example of laziness or oversight. Seriously, I'd rather play the games on an emulator on my PC.
I bought Balloon Fight to check it out. I know I'll be picking up F-Zero, Punch-Out, and Donkey Kong.
Best game on this list Super Metroid.
