I know it's a bit egotistical to think that I should be doing this, but I'm doing it anyways.

Essentially this topic is a place of bumping, if you feel that the forums are slow and are highly impatient, feel free to post here; in the thread with no direction.

Whatever, I'd say we need at least something to derail so let's start with; Japanese counterparts of 20th century games. For the most part, I'm confused. Some of their RPG's are brutal compared to American counterparts (Final fantasy II/4) while games like Contra: Hard Corps are staggeringly easy compared to the European version. It's inconsistent, who determines the difficulty?
Shame on your stupid.

Well considering that Nintendo as well as alot of game companies are based overseas. I think to answer your question I belive its up to the person playing the game. some games might be easier for some people and more difficult for others. I don't know what else to say.

Interesting idea. I'm not sure if NN will be on board with a thread like this, but I'll leave it alone for now.

I honestly think it's more due to the Japanese's overall playing style. They seem to favor RPGs over action games, so they might not be as good at Contra, but they love challenge in their Final Fantasy.

Right, RPGs are consistently harder in Japan, everything else seems to be randomized though. Apparently Act Raiser is much harder in the Japanese version while they get quite an easy Castlevania III. I'm starting to think that Konami makes games harder before they ship them out to the States.

I wonder how hard Taboo is on the Famicom?
Shame on your stupid.

It could also be the fact that all nintendo games come out in japan first before we get to see them in the USA.

While this occurs with the majority of the games, this is simply not a fact. Here's just a few NES titles that came out in North America prior to coming out in Japan. There are also other titles from other Nintendo consoles where this has occurred as well.

Adventure Island II
Adventures of Lolo 2
Aladdin
A Boy and His Blob
Burai Fighter
Double Dragon III

well most japanese shooters I've seen are just bullet hell like ikaruga because they are somehow good at dodging hundreds of bullets at once.
